About Gene McCall

 

Gene holds a B.S (with Distinction) in Mechanical Engineering, a Ph.D. in Environmental Health Engineering , and a J.D in Law from the University of Kansas, and an M.S in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State Univeristy where he was a University fellow. Dr. McCall's Dissertation research involved experimental studies and computer modeling of agricultural pesticide runoff. Gene was a certificed Pesticide Applicator in Kansas, where he preformed his dissertation field research, and in South Carolina, where he conducted herbicide application and research for BASF and others. 

Gene is also Co-Inventor of a patented degreasing agent and is a Registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent Office. 

In 2004 Gene was appointed by Governor Sanford to the Governor's South Carolina Water Law review Committee; he also served as Chair of the Instate Water Issues Subcommittee. Gene was a contributing author to the book, Environmental Law in South Carolina, 2nd ed., SC Bar (2006). Gene has presented numerous seminars and written both technical and legal articles in environmental and water law. 

Gene was a Major and Sanitary Engineer in the Medical Service Corps of the United States Army Reserves (1981-1990). In 2016 and 2017 he was appointed to and served as a member of the National Science Foundation Grant Proposal Review Panel for Environmental Engineering. He was a Contributor and Committee Member, Chair of the Development of Regulatory Tools subcommittee and Corresponding Editor for the final appendices, for the American Society of Civil Engineers, ASCE Standard 66-17, Management Practices for Control of Erosion and Sediment from Construction Activities, published in 2017. Gene is past chairman of the Greenville Chamber's Environmental issues Committee. He is a member of the Natural Resources Law of the American Bar Association, a member of the Environmental and Natural Resources section of the South Carolina Bar, a member of the Greenville County Bar, a member of the national and South Carolina section of the Water Environment Federation, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was a Board Member and President of the Friends of the Greenville Zoo. He was Class Speaker and Project Manager for the Leadership Greenville Class XXVII and was  on the Board of Regents for Leadership Greenville. He is past President of Paris Mountain State Park Friends (2008) and past Chair of the Eastside HS School Improvement Council (2007).

About Gene
 

Gene founded McCall Environmental in March 2000, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of environmental and water law. He is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell. He was awarded Life Member by the Water Environment Association of South Carolina. He has been recognized from 2013-Present as one of the Legal Elite in Environmental Law by The Greenville Business Magazine. In 2018 Gene was appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences Department at Clemson University. 

Gene is also a SC registered professional engineer, a SC Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector, and a SC Certified Inspector for Stormwater BMP Inspection and Maintenance.

 

Prior to opening his own law firm, McCall Environmental, P.A., in March 2000, he was a shareholder with the law firm of Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann, P.C., from 1990– 2000, after having joined the firm in 1988. From 1984-1988 Dr. McCall was an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, where he taught environmental engineering and law courses. He was also Associate Legal counsel for the University. He was an Adj. Professor of Law at USC (2006-2007).
